Heat Lose to Mavericks, Series Tied at One Game Each
Jun 3rd
A fifteen point lead over the Dallas Mavericks in the fourth quarter means nothing; in fact, it means less than nothing.
And it is always a very bad idea to start celebrating a huge lead over the Mavericks late in the game – just ask the Thunder and Kevin Durant about that.
But that is exactly the situation the Miami Heat and their fans found themselves in last night in Game Two of the NBA Finals – the Heat blew a 15-point lead with less than eight minutes to play, and the Mavs walked out with the win.
Mavericks Complete Comeback to Defeat OKC Thunder in Overtime
May 24th
I was watching the Mavericks-Thunder game last night, and with about five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and the Thunder up by 15, I almost wrote it off as a blowout.
But I kept watching, and the Mavericks kept coming, overcoming a double digit deficit in four minutes with a 17-2 run and tying the game to send it to overtime.
And then the veteran team kept attacking, winning the game 112-105 and going up 3-1 over the much younger Oklahoma City.
Bulls Shooting Way Off in Defeat to Heat
May 19th
If the Bulls learned one thing last night, it is that they can not shoot 34% from the field and expect to win games in the conference finals.
The Heat led by as many as 11 points during the game, and it was surprising that they did not lead by more, considering Chicago’s terrible shooting.
The Bulls also got beat on the boards, which is the one statistic they had beaten the Heat on reliably on in the previous four games of the regular season and Game One of the playoffs.
NBA Playoffs – Thunder, Grizzlies Tied at 3-3
May 15th
The Grizzlies-Thunder playoff series gets more exciting with every game, and Game Six in Memphis was no different.
Kevin Durant came out on fire, but picked up two quick fouls in the first quarter and was never heard from again the entire game.
From then on, it was almost all Grizzlies as the team ran away to a 95-83 victory to force a decisive Game Seven on Saturday in Oklahoma City.
Thunder Pound Tired Grizzlies, Heat Eliminate Celtics
May 12th
It took four tries, a couple of moves, and some waiting for some players to age, but LeBron James and crew finally overcame the Boston Celtics in a playoffs series.
With all three of the 2000s championship dynasties now out of the 2011 NBA Playoffs, it now becomes much more difficult to predict which team has the best chance of winning the title.
The fact that the Grizzlies and Thunder are still battling out west adds to the speculation.
Los Angeles Lakers Down 0-2 Against the Dallas Mavericks
May 5th
After their Game One loss to the Dallas Mavericks, the Lakers admitted to being concerned and worried about the team, and it showed in Game Two, as the Mavs lead the entire game.
The Lakers have now lost two in a row at home with last night’s 93-81 performance, and face the unenviable task of keeping their playoff hopes alive by winning four of the next five games.
After so many years of making it to the NBA Finals, Los Angeles is just looking beat down, while the Mavericks look like they are playing with purpose.
Using Bluffs When Playing Poker
Apr 18th
Everyone loves to pull off a great bluff. It just makes you feel good knowing that you won without having the best hand.
Bluffing will make you look very good at times and very bad at other times. If you are good at bluffing then you usually make other players uncomfortable and that is the goal when you are playing poker.
You want the other players at the table to always wonder what you are going to do.
Dallas Mavericks Look for Success in NBA Playoffs
Apr 15th
After competing with the Los Angeles Lakers all season for the second position in the Western Conference, the Dallas Mavericks slipped a little bit down the stretch.
They enter the playoffs as the third seed, but tied regular season records with Los Angeles.
But since LA wins the tie-breaker, they get the second seed while the Mavericks get the third.
Rockets Hope to Derail Hornets Playoff Hopes
Apr 6th
Wednesday night, the Houston Rockets travel to New Orleans to take on the Hornets in a game that could have important playoff consequences for the Hornets.
The New Orleans team is looking to lock in their postseason spot in the playoffs as soon as possible, and a win against Houston will be their best chance to clinch a playoff spot.

Mar 25th
After being considered one of the last of 11 total teams to make it into the NCAA tournament from the Big East, Marquette is now one of the final two that have not been eliminated.
Tonight, they take on the Tar Heels in Newark, NJ for a 7:15 PM ET tip-off.
The game will be televised on CBS.
Favorites for the UFC 128 Fight Card
Mar 19th
UFC 128 will be held this Saturday and features the light heavyweight title bout between defending champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and rising UFC star Jon Jones.
But that is not all that is featured on the the fight card for the night.
In total, there will be twelve fights to watch in what should prove to be one of the most anticipated and exciting MMA events of the year.
New Top Ten Rankings for NCAA Tourney Week
Mar 8th
Shooting 93% from beyond the arc is going to win a team a lot of games, and while the odds are against the Ohio State Buckeyes keeping up this torrid shooting pace, it sure is fun to watch and speculate about. After Saturday’s thumping of Wisconsin, the Buckeyes are once again the top team in the country, and anyone who watched the game could not possibly question the choice.
The Buckeyes were 14-15 from beyond the arc, and they looked virtually unstoppable with their inside/out attack against the Badgers. With conference tourneys beginning this week, it is almost a certainty that the Buckeyes will be a number one seed on selection Sunday.
Magic Play Against Portland Trailblazers in Orlando
Mar 7th
Without their All-Star Center Dwight Howard, the Orlando Magic’s chances against the Portland Traiblazers on Monday night will be much more difficult to predict than if they were playing with a complete team. Howard will be serving a one-game suspension after being called for his 16th technical foul of the season on Friday in a game against the Chicago Bulls.
Without Howard in the lineup, the Magic are listed as the 1.5 point favorites, with the total set at 187.5. If they had their star center, the odds would be better in favor of Orlando, a team that is strong at home, and which has been enjoying a respectable run since the All-Star Break, despite a loss to the Bulls Friday night in Orlando.
Ohio State Seeks Revenge Against Wisconsin Sunday
Mar 5th
The last time Ohio State and Wisconsin met, the result was that the Buckeyes lost their No. 1 ranking after suffering a defeat. This Sunday, the two schools will have their rematch, and there is no doubt that Ohio State has more to prove with this game than the Badgers.
The game will be played at the Value City Arena in Columbus, OH at 4:00 PM EST Sunday afternoon, and will be televised on CBS.
Taylor Takes Lead for Wisconsin, Destroys Hoosiers
Mar 5th
A major component of leadership is rising to the occasion when the occasion calls for it. Jordan Taylor is well acquainted with “the occasion” and Thursday night he proved to the country on ESPN just why he is the leader of a team that must be feared come tournament time.
With three of his teammates on the bench in foul trouble, Taylor took over in the second half and destroyed the Hoosiers hope of a comeback.
Magic Rally from 24-Point Deficit to Defeat Miami Heat
Mar 4th
Last night, the Orlando Magic were down by 24 points in the third quarter of their game. What would you expect them to do?
If you answered, “lose to an obviously better team that was beating them by such a huge margin,” you must not have been aware that the Magic were playing the Miami Heat, one of the worst clutch teams in the league right now.
Baylor Looks to Sweep Season Series Against Oklahoma State
Mar 2nd
In a Tuesday night NCAA basketball betting match-up, Baylor takes on Oklahoma State. Baylor is going to do what it has not been able to accomplish since 1922 – sweep the season series. The Baylor Bears are in a position where they need only two more wins to get to 20 total for the fourth season in a row, and they are currently on the bubble when it comes to the NCAA March Madness tournament.
Sports odds are predicting a close game tonight, with Oklahoma State being the slight favorite at -2 points. Oklahoma is also playing an important game here, as they need to make a strong showing in the Big 12 Conference tournament if they are to have much luck in the NCAA postseason. It is unlikely they make the cut for March Madness, however, despite a win on Saturday against Texas Tech.
Knicks Deplete Bench to Acquire Billups and Anthony
Feb 25th
A day after their huge deal with the Denver Nuggets, the New York Knicks are continuing to hunt for talent to fill out their depleted reserve situation. While head coach Mike D’Antoni has already penciled in his starting line-up, which includes Stoudemire, Anthony, Billups, Fields, and Turief, team president Donnie Walsh has claimed that the Knicks are not doe and will pursue other players before the Thursday deadline. The depleted bench will consist of Shawne Williams, Toney Douglas, and Corey Brewer, with Shelden Williams likely to be the go to guy to get Stoudemire and Anthony a rest.
With the trade, the Knicks actually add much more experience, including playoff experience, to their starting line-up. Anthony will be replacing Gallanari at the small forward position, and besides his nearly 26 points per game, Carmelo also brings much more game experience, 564 starts to Gallanari’s 124 career starts. The veteran Billups, while maybe not the best fit for the up-tempo Knicks, brings nearly 865 NBA starts, which includes plenty of playoff and NBA Finals experience.
What It Will Take to Win the Super Bowl in 2011
Jan 30th
With all of the infighting and drama going on behind the scenes of the Green Bay Packers, it is becoming more difficult by the day to justify the public’s excitement over the team. First there was the photo controversy, with the players on the injured reserve list possibly being left out of the team Super Bowl picture, and now there had been more public sniping about the issue between QB Aaron Rodgers and other players.
Linebacker Nick Barnett and tight end Jermichael Finley began complaining this week on social media site Twitter that they and other injured players were being left out of the photo. The injured players were not scheduled to be brought down to Dallas until two days after the picture was to be taken. The issue was cleared up with a rescheduling once Aaron Rodgers and Charles Woodson brought the matter to Coach Mike McCarthy.
Rodgers made the issue worse, however, by commenting to the press about the injured reserve players. He stated that, when he was injured in 2006, he stayed in Green Bay for rehab, while some of the players this year went to their homes around the country to recover and rehab. These remarks caused some consternation among the injured players, with Barnett responding on Twitter, saying “All I wanted to be is included as a teammate nothing more. Looks like it has backfired on me.. I guess That was asking too much… Sorry if I offended anyone.”
Is this really how a Super Bowl team acts during the two week run-up to the big game? The team picture is scheduled to exclude the injured reserve players, then it is rescheduled. Next, the start quarterback makes some backhanded comments to the press about the players’ choices of rehab locations, which is then responded to via Twitter. This all sounds a little too high school-ish for a team playing at such a high level of professional football.
But all this background noise begins to call into question the momentum driving the Green Bay Packers towards Super Bowl victory. Is it all just a delusion on the part of the public and the oddsmakers that Green Bay really has what it takes to beat the Steelers? And coming off the close win against the Chicago Bears, Green Bay’s offense looks more than questionable. Chicago could easily have won the game if they were playing up to their potential, as the Packers offense were effectively shut down.
And Pittsburgh has an even better defense than the Packers, which makes it more difficult to see how the Green Bay football team triumphs in the end. Green Bay is getting a lot more attention and love in the press and with the public, but that is probably because the Steelers have been here before. Maybe it is because the Steelers are expected to win their third Super Bowl in six years that everyone is hoping that Green Bay can really pull it off.
Farmer’s Insurance Open to Feature Tiger Woods
Jan 27th
With all of the abuse Tiger Woods has taken from the media over the past couple years, with one scandal after another being obsessed over by the news networks, it is a little surprising he would want to play golf in front of anyone ever again. But the Farmer’s Insurance Open will see the return of Tiger Woods to golf, and as a heavy favorite to win.
The Farmer’s Insurance Open will take place from January 27-30 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, California.
However, Tiger Woods is coming off of a recent injury, and his chances of overcoming the odds may be pretty small. He has experienced a number of injuries in recent months and years, all of which may be taking their toll on the star golfer. While he has won 6 of his 11 showings at Torrey Pines Golf Course, an injured Tiger is an injured Tiger, meaning he may not play at his full potential.
Other golfers may offer more value to the sports bettor, including Nick Watney, Dustin Johnson, and Phil Mickelson. Watney won the Open in 2009 and ended 2010 ranked 8th. Dustin Johnson’s game has been a bit of a roller coaster lately, with up and down games, but if he can put together consistent rounds of golf, he may have a chance at taking it all. Phil Mickelson has also been playing well lately, and is difficult to dismiss outright.
But with all of the hype surrounding Tiger Woods’ return to Torrey Pines, it can be hard not to get caught up in the excitement. He has been such a phenomenon for the professional sport, as well as a phenomenal player in his own right. No matter who wins or who covers the odds, most of the attention will be focused on watching Tiger does what he does best (no, not chasing women): playing professional golf at a high level of expertise.
How to Bet on MMA Events
Dec 13th
UFC betting consists of any type of wagers or bets on mixed martial arts or ultimate fighting championships. You can bet on UFC and other MMA fights at many different places on the internet, including an online sportsbook.
Ultimate Fighting betting odds are some of the newest options on the sports betting menu. Since its inception in 1993 with UFC 1: The Beginning, UFC betting has undergone many changes. Originally beginning as a “no rules” championship, over time things have evolved drastically. Gloves became mandatory, whereas in the beginning fighters would have at it bare-knuckled. There were no judges, as rounds were unlimited. Essentially, there was no way to win UFC betting matches by decision; only knockout, submission, or throwing in the towel.

College football betting like most other college sports, seems to come second in action to the professional leagues. The simple reason why is because there are hundreds of colleges, the internet is now available and as a result college football betting online has become much more accessible throughout the country.
The reason NCAA football betting is probably so popular may have to do with the fact that the players do not have the tenure that NFL stars do. They have 4 years to shine and if they’re good enough, the NFL may pick them up.
